eLearn

The Learning Place's No. 1 tool for creating a Virtual Classroom

The Learning Place

The Education Queensland Learning Place provides links to many different digital resources for teachers and students. Unfortunately, it's restricted to Queensland teachers in the public sector, but if you have access it's definitely a tool you should make use of.

I've only listed two below that I mostly use, but if you have access, jump on and check out some of the other resources like: edStudio, edTube, and Learning Pathways, just to name a few.

*NOTE:
The Blackboard Mobile App has now become the Blackboard App and it's had an update. A Blackboard Instructor app will also be released soon, so teachers, stay tuned for that!
eLearn (Virtual Classrooms)
Virtual Classrooms are private, secure eLearn spaces that support student and staff learning. Students and staff can collaborate and communicate in a safe environment via blogs, wikis, journals and discussion boards. Teachers can set, monitor and grade online summative assessments and add their colleagues as owners or facilitators for easy collaboration.

Virtual Classrooms are something I definitely make use of with all my classes. I use my VCs to upload class resources and assessment documents, send announcements and reminders, and set tasks such as discussion board posts and short quizzes. They save a lot of paper because I don't have to photocopy everything, and students can also easily access course content from home. They're very handy if I'm away from school for any reason because I can set a lesson, upload resources, and post an announcement to let my kids know what they should be doing.

It's also fantastic for embedding widgets from Remind and Google Calendar, and also embedding YouTube clips that I use in class. My students also submit digital copies of drafts and final copies of assessments via the Assessment tool and it also allows me to upload their grades so they can track how they're going over the course of the Term/Semester/Year.

Atomic Learning
Atomic Learning is an online professional development tool for educators suitable for beginners and advanced ICT users.
Access thousands of video tutorials and lesson plans designed to help you understand more about computers, software and other ICT.

This is a relatively new resource for me and I'm looking forward to exploring and utilising it more effectively. Stay tuned for more info to come.
